First Drive of a 2011 Mustang GT
Bengt Halvorson over at TheCarConnection.com gave a great review on the 2011 Ford Mustang GT. He compared it to the old 2003-04 SVT Cobra, saying it completely slams it. Bengt says the level of thrust level of thrust is awfully close to what you would get from a GT500. That sure is saying a lot about the new Mustang GT, because the 03-04 was known as the Terminator, so do we have a new Terminator on our hands?
Next to the amazing power that was coming out of the 5.0L V8 engine, the sounds was remarkable Bengt stated. "During startup the engine starts with a low rumble off an old big-block muscle car but quickly settles into a smooth purr that's completely different than previous Mustangs." This extremely impressed me, because I hate the sound of the previous stock model Mustang, I always thought they weren't loud enought and way to mellow.
Overall Bengt says enthusiasts will opt for the Coupe as he noticed a decrease in stiffness for the convertible. His favorite 2011 Mustang GT to drive was a coupe with the glass roof option which lets a large amount of light in like convertibles but maintains the coupes stiffness. He says the only way to go is the six-speed manual as the automatic offers no real gain.
It sure sounds like Ford's new 2011 Mustang GT is a hit with automotive enthusiasts everywhere. There are good rants coming from all over the automotive media, I can't wait to see what Car and Driver says about it the muscle car.
Cobra Jet Weld Wheels Hoosier Tires
I was so impressed with the Weld wheels and Hoosier tires on the 2010 Cobra Jet Mustang I had to make my own separate post on the topic. The whole setup on the Cobra Jet Mustang just looks gorgeous, this is what a lot of the modern age muscle cars are missing. Nowadays Mustangs and other muscle cars are going with the low profile tires and large 20 inch rims. What happened to the dragster look, big tires, small rims, and hepped up rear end in the back. To me I think this old drag style is cooler, it just overall looks meaner for the Mustang or muscle car. Man, those big rotors and brakes in the middle look sweet as well. I just love dragster Mustangs, the Cobra Jet Mustang was definitely well put together, the wheels and tires say it all!
2010 Cobra Jet Mustang
Since the 2008 Cobra Jet Mustang became a big hit with automotive enthusiasts, Ford thought it would be a great idea to make another for 2010, except using the new S-197 body style this time. The 2010 Cobra Jet comes equipped with a supercharged 5.4 liter V8, rated at around 475 horsepower. But I feel this may be underrated, I bet the horsepower is around 500 horsepower. The blower Ford Racing used was a Whipple supercharger. Since this is a turnkey drag racing coupe, the custom Mustang comes with NHRA certified roll cage, competition shifter with trans brake, Hoosier drag radials on Weld wheels, a rear mounted battery and fuel cell, as well as a cut-off switch. This baby is ready to run! I for one just love the way the Hoosier drag radials look on the custom Weld wheels, this is what a muscle car is all about! Big tires and horsepower, Ford hit the nail right on the head with this hammer.
2010 Ford Mustang Commercial
I thought Ford's new commercial was pretty cool, they took a 2010 Ford Mustang and mimic the movements of a common skateboarder out on LA's streets. Though most of the animation in this Mustang video was computer generated, it still gets your adrenaline going. I like the part where the 2010 Mustang skims by a concreted column, that was pretty neat. This part kind of reminds you of the part from the movie "The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift."
Rumored Twin-Turbo Shelby GT500
Rumor flying our the Mustang world was a twin turbo Shelby GT500 for the future. But those dreams were conquered when Mike Harrison talked to one of the Autoblog's staff and stated "the engine is not a part of the Blue Oval's plans going forward. A Twin-Turbo configuration would almost be impossible for any Ford engineer to fit the engine under the hood of the current S197 Mustang." It would of been pretty cool to see a twin turbo setup for the Shelby GT500 Mustang.
Lamborghini Gallardo Mustang
Believe it or not this Mustang outer shell sits on a Lamborghini Gallardo's drivetrain, engine, and interior. All three were transported into a 2007 Ford Mustang, making this a one of a kind Mustang, there's truly nothing like it in the Mustang world and out. The Gallardo Mustang uses the mid-engined all-wheel-drive powertrain, a 520 horsepower V-10 monster. There's no word on how much this baby costs, but I guess it's somewhere in the six figure range. It sure would sound cool hearing the exhaust from a Lamborghini Gallardo in a S-197 Ford Mustang, I bet this confuses a lot of Mustang enthusiasts.
Black Chrome Saleen Wheels
Black chrome has a unique look to it, it's a mix between a black paint job and chrome plating. Though it can be quite expensive, it may be worth it if you have a white paint job on your Ford Mustang. It absolutely looks gorgeous at night time, and if you have a white exterior, the black and white contrast will look especially good at night. Take it from me, I see a lot of muscle cars out on Woodward each weekend. I once spotted a white Saleen Mustang sporting these black chrome wheels and it looked exceptionally good!
Black Saleen Mustang Wheels
One wheel that is quite different is the black Saleen wheel. It gives your Ford Mustang that gun metal look, something that is very unique. This wheel will go great with a black paint job or even a white paint job on your Ford Mustang. Another great wheel you might want to check out is the black chrome Saleen wheel, it has a bigger shine to the wheel compared to a glossy paint job.
Ford Mustang Shaker Hood
Shaker hood is one of the coolest modifications you can do to your Ford Mustang. They not only give your Mustang a whole new look, they also give your Mustang more horsepower. The shaker hood helps rush cold air into your 4.6L V8 engine, which means more horsepower. There's no copmuter tuning needed after you install a shaker hood on your Ford Mustang. Your computer will adjust to the new modification and do it's best to get your Mustang down the track for a good ET. Shaker hoods look great on either the S-197 Mustang or the SN-95 Mustang. Down below is a picture of what a shaker hood looks like on a S-197 Mustang, the engine bay looks a lot cleaner too. Such a great Mustang modification!
Ford Mustang Chin Spoiler
A custom chin spoiler on your Mustang gives an agressive look. Back in the day, lets say 60s and 70s, many stock Ford Mustangs came with chin spoilers. So this is sort of a retro look for today's Ford Mustangs. They are easily installed and are made of rugged fiberglass, so if you ever tap the curb they won't break. If you're interested in purchasing a Mustang chin spoiler they run around $99 - $199 depending on the application.
